This Nationally Recognised certificate course is meticulously structured around four key stages, each designed to build a comprehensive skill set in the art of hairdressing. In the initial stage, students focus on foundational skills, learning the basics of hair cutting, styling, and colouring,  understanding hair types, scalp care, and the principles of hair design. 

The second stage introduces more advanced techniques, delving into creative hair-cutting and colouring methods and exploring the latest trends in hair fashion.

The third stage will refine their skills in chemical reformation, such as perming and straightening, and master complex colouring techniques, including balayage and foiling.

The final stage focuses on the business aspects of hairdressing. Students learn about salon management, customer service excellence, and effective communication skills.

ABOUT THE COURSE

In the Hairdressing profession, you’ll be dedicated to helping people feel and look their very best. Our course content selection provides you with the knowledge, attitude and skills to work in the hairdressing industry as a professional hairdresser. From day one you will develop a broad range of competencies, opening doors to the hairdressing industry – from providing advice on hair care, beauty products and hairstyles, shampooing hair and conditioning scalps, colouring, straightening and permanently waving hair with chemical solutions, cutting hair with scissors, clippers and razors, styling hair into dreadlocks and braids and adding hair extensions, shaving and trimming beards and moustaches, cleaning work areas and sanitising instruments, arranging appointments and collecting payments.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to attend face-to-face classes for 2 days per week for 42 weeks as well as 125-200 hours of in-salon work experience training. You will have off campus structured learning activities including homework, assignments, assessment preparation, practical salon work experience and online study. You will complete 28 units of study to gain Certificate III in Hairdressing.

Upon completing the Certificate III in Hairdressing, you are a qualified hairdresser and hairstylist. Travel the world with transferable skills or use your knowledge to work in an established salon or to launch your own salon business.

Certificate III in Hairdressing is also an ideal course for  makeup artist or beauty therapist wishing to expand their skill base. Makeup artists wishing to enter the Film & TV industry is strongly recommended to take on hairdressing skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
TMT accepts students who are 16 and have completed year 10 or equivalent, there is no maximum age limit. If you are an international student, you must have a minimum English language level of IELTS 5 or equivalent. International Students must be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants who are not able to demonstrate that they meet the criteria above, nevertheless, believe that they satisfy TMT’s English requirements, may request to complete a Language literacy and numeracy assessment (LLN), prior to a formal interview by the Principal / Head Teacher at the College

Applicants without completing year 12 are required to do the LLN Test [Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test], this test is used to identify any supports a student might require.

DELIVERY:
Face to Face Blended [Sydney]
This is a blended delivery course which will include a combination of online, remote and face to face delivery. Blended learning can involve a range of online programs and resources including Online Learning Portal, Live Class & Pr-recorded sessions, assigned reading, tutorials, discussion boards, and online activities. Blended learning also involves face-to-face attendance at classes or practical placements.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
Full time Duration: 12 months, Two days [Monday & Tuesday 9am to 4pm] per week plus 125 – 200 hours of in-salon work experience training.
Part time Duration: 18 months, 1 Day [ Monday / Tuesday 9am to 4pm] per week plus plus 125 – 200 hours of in-salon work experience training..

STUDY REQUIREMENTS
For full time study, this course requires 30 – 35 hours nominal hours of study per week. This consists of attending 2 days per week in classroom training, structured learning activities, including homework, assignments, assessment preparation and Pivot Point Lab activities. Hairdressing is a practical hands-on discipline, you are required to participate in 125 – 200 hours of in-salon work experience training and work on real fee paying clients as well as do practical exercise and work experience at home or at commercial settings.
This is a practical qualification with a lot of hands-on assessment that students need to complete to pass. All skills assessments are required to be carried out on paying members of the public.
Students are responsible for sourcing their own practice and assessment models. The school will assist and guide students on how to source models.

Students are required to purchase student retained Hairdressing Kit, Pivot Point Learning Resource & Swatch Kit. The combined Material and Learning resource cost is $2850.

TRAINING SALON & WORK PLACEMENT

Work experience provides you with exposure to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work experience is mandatory for this qualification as this is a highly practical course. There are a number of ways to get the work experience to build up your skills and confidence. Participation in student training salons and / or undertake work experience with a suitable industry employer.
